Easy edible plants to grow

Easy edible plants to grow indoors

Its getting to that time of year to be thinking of planting seeds. Even if you're not a keen gardener - or you don't have a garden - even with a window sill you can still grow a few useful things with hardly any effort.

  • Basil
  • Chillies/Peppers
  • Chervil
  • Coriander
  • Parsley
Basil, Chervil & Coriander will seed quite easily once they have been going for a couple of months or so.

And the seeds don't cost much - I found several for less than 50p in stores like Aldi.  Also I rarely buy pots for this, use old yoghurt pots, margarine tubs obviously well washed out & pierce some holes in the bottom - and old cardboard type egg boxes (which can be planted directly in your soil outside), & used plastic fruit containers  which are excellent because they already have holes in the bottom.

For those with Gardens other items such as tomatoes, cucumber, lettuce, sweetcorn, pumpkin always start them on a sunny windowsill, the glass window acts like a conservatory. Then gradually put them outside for a few hours each day for a few days before you plant them outside, there are always good guidelines on the packets as to when to plant them out.
